TECC for Emergency Medical Services (TECC-EMS) Course
Course Description:
Bridge the gap between standard emergency medical care and the unique demands of civilian high-threat incidents. The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course, recognized by the Committee for TECC (C-TECC), provides EMS personnel with the critical skills and knowledge to respond effectively to active violence events, mass casualty incidents, and other operational scenarios where traditional EMS scene safety protocols may not apply.
Drawing upon principles established in military combat medicine (TCCC) and adapted for the civilian environment, this course equips providers to manage life-threatening injuries at the point of wounding. Led by instructors with extensive, real-world experience in both tactical medicine and civilian emergency services, this dynamic program emphasizes evidence-based, life-saving interventions under challenging conditions.
Key Learning Objectives and Skills:
Understand the core principles of TECC and the phases of care: Direct Threat Care (Hot Zone), Indirect Threat Care (Warm Zone), and Evacuation Care (Cold Zone).
Rapidly identify and manage massive hemorrhage using tourniquets, wound packing, and hemostatic agents.
Perform essential airway management techniques appropriate for tactical environments.
Recognize and manage respiratory distress, including the application of chest seals.
Address circulatory issues and prevent hypothermia.
Implement strategies for triage and casualty movement in tactical settings.
Understand operational considerations for integrating with law enforcement and other first responders during active threat events.
Practice TECC skills through realistic, high-fidelity scenarios simulating civilian tactical emergencies.
Course Format:
This intensive course combines didactic learning with extensive hands-on skills stations and immersive, scenario-based training designed to build competence and confidence under stress. Course content adheres strictly to the current C-TECC guidelines for medical providers.
Target Audience:
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Advanced EMTs, Paramedics, Tactical Medics (TEMS), Firefighters with EMS responsibilities, and other prehospital providers who may respond to active violence or complex tactical incidents.
Certification:
